"canceled my mother in law's policy after a surprise inspection even after we explained that the house was being remodeled. After providing pictures of the remodel they still chose to cancel the policy because "the level of remodel was to extensive, and should qualify as a new build" even though we kept the original foundation in place and used the original framing for the house. When I asked for where I could find a written document that showed how extensive a remodel could be without being a "new build" I was told no. Keep in mind she had been a customer for 31 years before they canceled her policy, guess they didn't want her to keep her loyalty discounts."

"Hi Jason, Thank you for your communication on this situation this week. As we’ve been discussing, underwriting sent a letter a year ago about the potential non-renewal if the items mentioned were not completed. A year later, the remodel is not completed and the estimated completion date is after the policy renewal. As I communicated, once the extensive remodel is completed, we can send pictures to underwriting for reinstatement consideration. We sincerely value your mother in laws loyalty to the company. The company needs to verify that the property is not under construction to be able to insure properly. One item to clarify in your review. You were not told “no” you couldn’t review documentation. You were told that you could not talk to an underwriter as they are not customer facing and our office is the source of communication to State Farm underwriters. We look forward to continue to work hard on getting this resolved. "
